Thirty‑one brilliant but financially challenged students from AGCL’s twenty catchment communities have received full scholarships to pursue tertiary education, under the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation and General Manager’s Scholarship schemes.
The awards were conferred at the 5th Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, commended the company and the foundation for using education as a tool for empowerment and development. He praised the transparency and structure of the selection process and urged other companies to emulate the model.
The Forestry Commission’s visit formed part of the regulatory process to ensure that all environmental and operational considerations are met before approval is granted. Officials interacted with AGCL’s technical team on site seeking clarification on the scope of work, environmental safeguards and reclamation measures.
Chairing the event, Nana Kofi Nkoah II, Chief of Sefwi Ahwiaa, applauded the foundation’s efforts to create access to education for talented yet financially challenged students. He encouraged the awardees to make the most of the opportunity.
Ing. Stephen Asante Yamoah, GM, stressed the rigorous selection process, which includes aptitude tests, interviews and background checks to ensure fairness and equal opportunity across all catchment communities.
He cited the company’s broader investment in education, such as the recent rehabilitation of Anyinasie Basic School and expressed hope that its pupils will one day benefit from the scholarship scheme.
Since its inception in 2021, the CSF and GM scholarship programmes have supported 138 students, 33 of whom have already graduated and now work as doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers and other professionals.
Board Chairman of the CSF, Ing. Kwaku Sarfo Duah, described the scholarships as an investment in the community’s future saying “this is not a hand‑out, it is a promise to support and nurture the next generation of leaders, innovators and change‑makers.”
